Casares will once again become a meeting point for film lovers, filmmakers and creatives when the Festival Nuevo Cine Andaluz returns for its 13th edition from 2 to 10 October 2026.

Dedicated entirely to cinema made in Andalucía, the festival brings a packed programme of feature films, documentaries and short films, offering audiences the chance to discover new voices, independent productions and stories connected to the region. This year’s official selection includes five fiction features, five documentaries and 19 short films.

There is much more to the festival than screenings. The programme includes the popular Cortos Exprés competition, where teams create a short film in Casares within just 48 hours, along with photography, filmmaking courses, talks and professional meetings. The 2026 edition has attracted a record 33 teams and 184 participants for the Cortos Exprés challenge.

Film fans can also take part in training sessions led by director and screenwriter Santi Amodeo, while other activities will introduce students and aspiring filmmakers to different aspects of the industry. A meeting with CINA, the Association of Andalusian Filmmakers, will also explore the work of screenwriters and the wider creative and production process.

The festival concludes on Saturday 10 October with a closing gala at the Centro Cultural Blas Infante, featuring the presentation of the Pajarracos de Plata awards and screenings of the winning Cortos Exprés entries.

With a programme designed to bring filmmakers and audiences together, the Festival Nuevo Cine Andaluz offers a fascinating celebration of the creativity, talent and independent spirit of Andalusian cinema. All screenings are free to attend, subject to available capacity.

The daily event times for the festival vary depending on the activity type:

• Training Courses & Professional Sessions: These generally run in the mornings from 09:00 to 14:00 (such as the scriptwriting workshop with Santi Amodeo).
• Early Screenings & Documentaries: The earlier slots for short films and documentary blocks usually begin at 18:30.
• Official Feature Film Screenings: The nightly premier fictional feature films start at 21:00.

(Note: On the opening weekend, online viewing for specific competitions like the Cortos Exprés unlocks late at night starting from 23:00).
